After a brief 12 hour stay in Frankfurt. (No worries, we get to come back for a few days and play tourist then.) We arrived in the city of the little mermaid, Copenhagen.
Copenhagen was awesome. We stayed at a hybrid hostel/hotel; in a room that made our stateroom on the ship feel palatial. This place was Tiny with a capital T. We spent our first evening exploring the neighborhood. We were right at the entrance to the Tivoli, the amusement park that inspired Disneyland. We were by the circus and the Palads, a huge movie complex. That night we walked along the two mile Strøget. A pedestrian mall with shops of all kinds (and 3 H&M stores - who needs 3 of those in a mile radius?)
The next day we hiked to an observatory attached to a church called the round tower (The view from the top is behind the title above) took a bus tour and a canal tour of the city and saw all the sites. We did not get to go into Christiana - a hippy community on an outer island - and we only saw the little mermaid stature from the water. Which was fine. I took a nap, and Ryan went on a Kirken (church) tour.
We checked out the local nightlife and ate a ton. We were very confused why EVERY restaurant had nachos, burgers, and fish and chips. No matter what the cuisine was.
Finally our last day we boarded the cruise ship, Nieuw Statendam, and started the next portion of our adventure.
