Still one of my favorite places. Ryan really wants to go back since we only had a few hours here.
The wind was severe this day and they parked the ship in the lee side of a bridge pier. You can see it in the picture at the top. As huge as the ship is, it looks tiny next to the Victorian Age train bridge. We took Ferry boats to the dock that day and they had problems docking at both the ship and the pier.
Once we got on land, we decided to take the train into town. We walked up 13 flights of stairs to get to the station at the end of the large bridge. Once we got to the top, Ryan said he needed to use the bathroom, and I figured I would not make it into town. So.....back down 13 flights of steps to the WC at the dock. Then back up 13 flights to the train station. We bought our tickets. Sat down and realized that if we took the train we would lose 2.5 hours in travel time to a city that was 7 miles away. We just took an Uber.
We started at the eastern end of the Royal Mile at Hollyrood Castle which is Queen Elizabeth II's residence when she is in Scotland. We walked up the Royal mile stopping in shops where Ryan bought an amazing kilt! At the top we elected to skip Edinburgh Castle because of time. So we wandered through the back streets of the city. Had lunch at a the coolest café with the best waitress. We walked though Greyfriar's Kirkyard of Harry Potter fame. Then back across to the Prince Street gardens and New town where we caught an Uber back to the ship.
Getting back on ship proved a little more than stressful for me. The ferry had a really difficult time mooring to the ship, and once they did it kept pulling away. So the could only get three or four people off at a time. By the time we got off I was ready to run everyone over and just jump for it.
Hmmm am I still afraid of water. Check and Double Check.
