Got to the airport, checked in, walked to the gate, and promptly watched the screens change from On Time to Delayed, and then Cancelled due to weather in Newark. Then went back home to for a bit.
Watched the next couple flights get cancelled. Booked another flight for that afternoon. Got back to the the airport a few hours later, ate lunch, and went to our gate. On the way, we saw another flight headed to Newark and jumped on it standby...bad move. It had already sat at the gat for almost 2 hours before we got on. Then we sat for over an hour more. The flight finally took off late that evening.
Well, almost. On take off we had an engine overheat as we were taking off. The pilot hit the brakes at several hundred miles an hour and we came to a stop. Fire trucks, safety crews and a taxi back the terminal. Then wait for a new crew. Then wait for two hours for other people to people to fill in seats.
5am the next morning we finally arrived at Newark, 25 hours late to a sold out hotel and no room. They had giving it to someone else. We did find a place at the Hilton next door to shower, change and sleep for 4 hours. Then it was back to the airport to board our first class flight on flight on Iceland Air. Now that was a dream!
Notice how excited we start and now "not excited" we are in the end. We did get champagne at the Iceland Air Lounge and on the flight out of Newark to Iceland though. Highly recommend first class; it's awesome! Just an aside, the blue pic behind the title is from the airplane window of the moon rising over the clouds at 2am.
